Three months or three thousand miles, everyone knows the adage, this is when you need to have your oil changed to maintain optimal engine functions. How true is this adage? It is hard to say because there are a lot of factors that impact your oil. Cleanliness and oil levels are the biggest factors when it comes to what is wrong with your engine oil. If you consistently have low oil levels it can point to a leak. If your oil is consistently dirty it can point several factors that are negatively impacting the operation of your vehicle.
Your oil is the lifeblood of your engine. It can tell you almost anything you want to know about the “health” of your vehicle. It is a good practice to pull out your oil dipstick every other time you fill up your gas tank just to take a look. You should wear gloves because if your oil is gritty or smells burnt it could be an indication of a more serious problem that needs to be addressed.
